The anatomy and physiology of semen
The components of semen
Normally, the ejaculation of semen averages 2.5 mL of fluid containing 50 to 200 million spermatozoa per milliliter, or an average of 400 million sperm per ejaculation. It contains Hyaluronidase (a proteolytic enzyme) is apparently released by the sperm and acts to dissolve the later of the cells protecting the ovum. The sperm is composed of protein.
The process of fertilization
At the time of ovulation, there is a reduction in the viscosity (thickness) of the cervical mucus, which makes it easier for the spermatozoa to penetrate. Sperm transport is so efficient close to ovulation that spermatozoa deposited in the vagina during intercourse generally reach the cervix within 80 seconds and the outer end of a fallopian tube within 5 minutes after deposition. This is one reason why douching is not an effective contraceptive method.
This is a condition that affects the entire system of the human if he or she is exposed to a certain allergen factors. This condition may be considered as a normal defense mechanism of a person towards a debilitating complication. However, if this could not be properly managed it could cause death to the person.
The semen allergy
It is possible but rare to occur that a certain person is allergic to semen. Most of these people may have allergy to the main component of sperm which is protein. However, there are still further studies to identify the specific protein that is found in the sperm which causes allergic reaction to the person.
Clinical manifestations of semen allergy
There are sets of semen allergy symptoms that are observed to a person who is allergic to semen. The following are the signs and symptoms of allergy to semen:
- Redness of the vulva and vagina;
- Burning sensation at the external genetalia;
- Inflammation of the vagina or skin where the semen has contacted.
- Pruritus (itchiness);
- Hives (if the systemic circulation is involved);
- Difficulty of breathing (once the allergens have reached the pulmonary system).
These are the sperm allergy symptoms that are used by the doctor to diagnose allergic reaction to semen. Most of it may be described with the same manifestation of any forms of skin allergy. The best way to identify the condition is to discuss the symptoms to the doctor as early as possible. Series of diagnostic test is used to identify if you are allergic to semen.
Getting worried of infertility?
You don’t have to get worried about being not pregnant. There are other ways on how to conceive a child even without direct contact to the sperm. If in case that you are diagnosed to have an allergy to the sperm, the doctor will advise you to have other options such as:
Oftentimes, semen allergy is associated with infertility. However, this is not true because this is just an allergic reaction that could occur to a person who is diagnosed to have allergy with the semen. Other times, it is often misleading because there are many doctors who misdiagnosed the client to have yeast infection or herpes complex since these two sexually-transmitted diseases may manifest the same clinical symptoms of semen allergy. According to Dr. Jonathan Bernstein, an associate professor of clinical medicine in the University of Cincinnati – College of Medicine studied this condition. He mentioned that there are few researchers who have investigated the same condition and provide an appropriate treatment for it.
The semen therapy
Despite of this debilitating issue pertaining to semen allergy, there are still significant studies that have been proven to involve semen as part of the treatment. The semen therapy is a form of treatment that uses the compound called spermidine found in the human sperm. This compound had been used for flies, mouse, yeast and worms, and even the human blood cells. It was found out that spermidine can help the cell to regenerate. This could simply mean that as we age, the cellular regeneration reduces. But with the help of semen therapy, everything will be reversed. The spermidine is one of the major components of other anti-aging pills. However, there are no further studies that have been investigated to support the research. Today, technology is growing faster. It includes the developments of diagnostic tool and treatments used for managing other diseases. As for semen allergy, the groups are now making their movements to look for any adjunctive treatment to help your problem.
